Story of a Poem
Story of a Poem
It was meant to be a simple fun activity. In Amazon Pune, i.e. around Diwali 2017, we had a big Bengali presence at the site. So, I started a Bengali Food group for all Bengalis and lovers of Bengali food to come together and appreciate the cuisine. During the Diwali of that year, Eden Garden, was a new Bengali resturant close to the Amazon office. As a fellow enterpreneur, I was keen to support the start up venture. Went out and got their Diwali Menu and, then, sent it out along with an invitation poem to the Bengali Foodie WhatsApp Group based on the Maharaja Thali Menu.
Eden Garden Special Maharaja Thali - @599/-
Peas Katchori | Kosha Aloor Dum | Saffron Kaju Pullao | Fish Paturi | Prawn Malai Curry | Mutton Maharaja | Churtney | Papad | Sweet
The poem is based on this specific thali menu...
Hey you,
All foodies out there,
It's time to prepare,
Mothership "Eden Garden" has come calling,
With a menu - grand and enthralling,
Time again to unite with colleagues,
Tell Stories around the food trollies.
There is more than conversation to go on,
Bengal's daughter and son...
Start a plate with all that rice will allow,
Soft and fluffy Saffron Kaju Pullao,
Leave behind all that curry,
As you munch on a side of Peas Kachori.
Forget the dal, bhaat, and muri,
As you unwrap the delicious Fish Paturi.
Still not happy and leaving in a hurry?
Wait, there is Prawn Malai Curry!
And with a spread fit for a Pasha,
How can one forget the Mutton Maharaja?
Finally standing tall distinct and discrete,
There is Chutney, Papad, and Sweet.
Hey you,
All friends out there,
Feast starts at 12:30 PM...
Let's come together for our Bong connection.
Celebrate hearth and heart,
History, legacy, and our birth.
Let this Diwali ignite,
A passion for gastronomic insight.
See you tomorrow at Kharadi,
Keeping Shrinkage, ABT and PRR aside! 😜
After the meal with the Foodie group, I mentioned this to the Eden Garden team about the backstory and poem. They asked to share it and I wrote a feedback review for it. One of the resturant promoters was a former RJ. She saw the poem and gave a should out to me on Facebook. I was blown away by her kindness.
Pranab and I are the partners-in-crime in the picture above.
-------
There review went something like this...
Two brave souls,
Set out to tempt the palate,
Challenged the Chef's menu whole,
Came away impressed with the food ballet.
Course after course serenaded,
The hungry Bengali stomach within,
It was worth every penny paid.
Though walked away with a few additional pounds and a double chin!
Missed the invitees,
Can't replace the missing connect.
Pranab and I endlessly discussed potatoes and peas,
The gapping loss of lively chatter was hard to deflect.
No matter the loss,
We have immense fun,
Diwali spirit did not remove any gloss,
I hope you understand my pun!
friends, we will meet up another time,
So giving out a shout,
Till then, await another rhyme,
In the meanwhile, please eat your heart out!
Manali De, one of the owners, posted on Facebook:
"...Miss Kasturi writes a review for us which is so heart touching!!!
Kasturi if you are here in this group kindly tag yourself. Let people know you as such a creative person. Had I known you during my Radio Mirchi tensure, I woud have definitely taken help from you for script-writings!!"
And, thus ends the story of a poem...
